The Pershing Countys High School wrestling team competed in its qualifying matches this past week. 
They traveled to Yerington for the opening salvos of the Northern 2A League duals. The Mustangs sent five athletes into the fray.
Devin Moura (113 pounds) secured the number two seed for regional, going 9-1 over the weekend.
“Devin had a great match with his Yerington opponent but came up short,” said PCHS coach Mike Brooks. 
Dmitri Zveniatckovskii seeded as No. 3 in the 132-pound weight class.
“Dmitri lost a couple of close matches, and looks to close the gap against those opponents going forward,” said Brooks. 
Caleb Nolf earned the No. 4 seed at 138 pounds.  
According to the coach, Nolf had his best week of wrestling for the season. 
Noel Zaldivar (145) earned multiple pins and forfeits over the two days. He also had his best week, reported Brooks. 
Zaldivar improved his chances of qualifying for the state tournament. 
Nik Pavlov went 10-0 and earned a conference championship.
Pavlov stands as the number one seed for the 152-pound weight class heading into the regional competition.
PCHS hosts the Northern 2A Regional Championships on Saturday, Feb. 8, beginning at 9 a.m.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance  to the NIAA State Championships.
The NIAA 3A and 2A NIAA State Championships will take place Feb. 14-15 at Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite.
The 4A State Championships are being wrestled in Las Vegas this year.
