MCDERMITT — It took a little longer than expected, but the McDermitt High School volleyball team made its home debut this past Friday afternoon against Owyhee.

The Braves scored five of the first seven points to start the opening set and maintained that advantage throughout.

The Lady Bulldogs’ serving gave the Braves some first with Cayla Crutcher, Taylor Killsback and Nikki Northrup collecting aces in the first set.

Takayla Antonio had two kills in the first set, but McDermitt could get any closer than six points.

The Braves raced out to a 14-0 advantage in the second set, when the Lady Bulldogs got some momentum back on the strength of back-to-back aces by Killsback. Antonio added a kill and ace late in the second set.

After trailing 3-0 in the third set, an ace by Northrup kick-started a 9-6 run and the Lady Bulldogs took the lead at 10-9 on a tip by Crutcher.

The set was tied at 10 and 11, when the Braves went on a 5-0 run and did not trail again.

McDermitt stayed within striking distance off an ace by Northrup and a tip by Antonio, but Owyhee was able to score the final three points of the third set to earn the victory.

McDermitt is set to close out the regular season this weekend at home.

The Lady Bulldogs host Wells on Friday at 3 p.m. and Jackpot in a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
