The Lowry High School swim team opened its season on Saturday, April 17, in Carson City with three duals against Hug, North Valleys and Damonte Ranch. 

The Lowry girls beat Hug 43-33, lost to North Valleys 55-43 and lost 212-26 to Damonte Ranch. The Buckaroo boys knocked off Hug 43-24 and lost 57-37 to North Valleys and 72-38 to Damonte Ranch.

“It was a good first week for us,” said LHS coach McKenzie Rupp. “All of the kids set personal best times. We got a good win over Hug and was close with North Valleys. Damonte Ranch had a ton of swimmers, especially on the girls side.”

For the Lady Bucks against Hug, Paris Collins picked up two events wins, including the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 3 minutes 21 seconds and the 100-yard backstroke. 

Mackenzie Swensen won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 35.65 and was third in the 10-yard backstroke. Zoey 

Thies won the 100-yard backstroke and was second in the 500-yard freestyle.

Against North Valleys, Swensen was good enough for first in the 50-yard freestyle, but North Valleys gained 23 points in the event with three swimmers. Swensen was third on the 100-yard backstroke.

Paris was first in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke and Thies was the winner in the 500-yard freestyle and second in the 100-yard backstroke.

Against Damonte Ranch, Paris was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. Swensen placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke and Thies was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yars breaststroke. 

For the Lowry boys against Hug, Ashton Kalkoske was first in the 200-yard freestyle and second in the 50-yard freestyle, while Matthew Lizanetz won both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

Caden Montero took home the top spot in the 100-yards freestyle and was third in the 50-yard freestyle.

Against North Valleys, Lizanetz time in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly was good enough to win the event.

Kalkoske placed second in the 50-yard freestyle and Montero was third in the 100-yard freestyle and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle.

Kalkoske’s time in the 200-yard freestyle against Damonte Ranch was good enough to win the event. Kalkoske was second in the 50-yard freestyle. Lizanetz won the 50-yard freestyle and was second in the 100-yard butterfly.  

Montero placed third in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.

Lowry was off this past weekend and travels to Sparks on Friday.

The Buckaroos will be in Fernley on Saturday, May 8.
