CARSON CITY — The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) has scheduled a telephonic and written comment consumer session on Wednesday, June 24, to hear public comment regarding Southwest Gas Corp.’s (SWG) application to adjust natural gas rates in Nevada.

SWG has filed an application with the PUCN to increase its retail natural gas rates in its Southern and Northern Nevada divisions.

The application, Docket No. 20-02023, requests a statewide annual general rate increase of approximately $38.3 million. In Southern Nevada, SWG’s proposed annual revenue increase is approximately $35.2 million, or 7.81%. The proposed annual revenue increase in Northern Nevada is approximately $3.1 million, or 2.59%.

If SWG’s request is approved, the average monthly single-family residential bill for natural gas service in Southern Nevada would increase an estimated $3.71, or 8.65%. In Northern Nevada, the estimated average single-family residential bill would increase $2.47, or 3.19%.

In its application, SWG cites three primary factors for the proposed increases: 1) a change in the cost of capital; 2) updating costs related to capital investments; and 3) incremental operations and maintenance expense related to the company’s Customer Data Modernization Initiative. Based on the evidence presented in the case, the PUCN may approve rates as proposed, or decrease or increase rates as necessary to ensure rates are just and reasonable. The consumer session is scheduled for:

Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at 6 p.m.

Live telephone conference: 1-844-621-3956. Use this access code for telephone conference: 497295909.
