Jaclyn Mize of J Bar M Certified Equine Massage is now available for appointments in Battle Mountain.
The Lander County Planning Commission approved a Home Occupation Permit application from Jaclyn Mize of J Bar M Certified Equine Massage.

Mize is a certified practitioner of deep-tissue massage on horses and has been administering the therapy in Elko and Winnemucca, and now Battle Mountain residents can use her services locally.

Equine massage is a growing field of therapy and reportedly of great value for post-trauma rehabilitation, improving movement and reducing pain.

Mize wants to eventually become an equine specialist.

“I want to do everything, but my massage does not take the place of veterinary care. In the state of Nevada, you have to be a licensed veterinarian to do chiropractic work, so I don’t do that; and you can’t float their teeth, either, without being a vet.”

Mize stated it is beneficial to use massage on a horse before a chiropractic treatment, just as it is for humans.

“It’s actually a lot better to get a massage before you get chiropractic, because all your muscles have moved,” explained Mize.

Mize will conduct the office portion of her business in her home at 122 18th Street in Battle Mountain but will travel to her clients for the equine massage, and stated her business will not affect neighboring property owners.

Mize said she may possibly be able to conduct some therapy sessions at the rodeo grounds, as she does so in Elko and Winnemucca, and she will inquire at the next Battle Mountain Livestock Event Center Board Meeting.
