WINNEMUCCA — Elko’s National Cowboy Poetry Gathering is bringing classic cowboy poetry, music, and humor direct to Winnemucca — on film.

The first stop on the Gathering in Your Town circuit will be the Humboldt Museum at 6 pm on Saturday, Oct. 9.

Bring the family for an outdoor film screening of gathering highlights and performances by artists from your neck of the woods.

In partnership with Great Basin Arts and Entertainment, Saturday’s program will feature poetry by Carolyn Dufurrena and other local talent.

With dynamic media productions and a series of traveling performances, the Gathering in Your Town program brings the entertainment and educational experiences audiences enjoy at the annual destination event, the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, to local communities throughout northern Nevada.

Drawing from over 30 years of footage and a wide network of artists, each stop on the Gathering in Your Town traveling circuit will be unique, just like the towns it visits.

As performers and audiences adapt to new ways of gathering in person, the insight and wit of cowboy entertainers seems especially relevant.

Themes of distance, resiliency, uncertainty, making do, and what to do when the herd can’t or won’t herd… seem more appropriate than ever.

An outgrowth of our changed circumstances, the Gathering in Your Town program series is a new initiative to share the experience of the Gathering with the wider Nevada community.

Without traveling beyond their own backyard, Nevada audiences can enjoy a good laugh and a good, open-air gather.

Taking advantage of the last days of summer, the outdoor film will begin as the sun goes down.

Usher in this new season and this new program by joining us for a festive, entertaining evening of cowboy-inspired video and performance.

Tickets are suggested donation at the door. Films are captioned.
