Dennis Patrick Laybourn
Dennis Patrick Laybourn
Dennis Patrick Laybourn, son of Roland & Lorraine Laybourn, was born January 28, 1952 and passed away on June 5, 2020 at Renown Regional Medical Center, Reno, NV with his son by his side. 

Dennis grew up in rural Markesan on the family farm until he graduated in 1970 from Markesan High School. 

He attended the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh and graduated in 1974 with a degree in Geology. 

He then went to the University of Minnesota, Duluth to earn his Masters in Geology.

Growing up, Dennis was active in both 4-H and FFA. 

He loved rocks and would always have them in his station wagon.  

His career took him to many places including Alaska, Montana, Colorado, Brazil, Arizona and planting roots in Winnemucca, Nevada.

He started his career in exploration of mining and then in environmental mining.

He had many stories to tell of his adventures until he retired in 2019 as the Environmental Manager at Newmont Mining Corporation TS Power Plant. 

Dennis was laid back, enjoyed his morning coffee, and a good gin and tonic. 

He also had a unique sense of humor and a hearty laugh which he has certainly passed on to his son Jason. 

Dennis raised 3 fine boys; Dan, Nick & Jason and loved them so. His family was very important to him, whether near or far.  

He was a very proud grandpa and loved spending time with his grandchildren playing board games and making memories.  

In his youth he enjoyed working with his siblings, first mowing the Mackford Cemetery with his sisters and then tending to the pickle patch with his brothers. 

He made many visits in the summer to Wisconsin to spend time with his family and friends.  

While his adventures took him to many places, he always considered Markesan his home.   

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Roland & Lorraine Laybourn, brother Kevin Laybourn, sisters Vicki & Faye Laybourn, son Nick Crombie, PFC US Army, niece Cindy Laybourn and sister-in-law, Brenda Laybourn. 

He is survived by two sons, Dan Crombie, Tuscan, AZ; Jason Laybourn, Winnemucca, NV, two grandsons, Jayden & Jeremiah Laybourn, three brothers, Jerrold (Mira) Laybourn, Ripon; Dale (Pat) Laybourn, Fairwater; Gary (Sue) Laybourn, Markesan; two sisters, Mary (Jim) Schultz, Ripon; Sharon Laybourn, Ripon; and further survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends and his faithful dog, Otis.

A private service with be held at a later date with immediate family.
